Is it possible to access report fields from the broker in order to set their background color or other visual properties?

To circumvent the issue, I have used a broker and within the broker I have kept the previous record in memory. When evaluating group statements, I refer to that last record for evaluating certain fields. It has worked out so far.

I can confirm that it does work on a different computer so it must be some configuration on this computer. I will clean up this computer and let you know if it works here. Thanks for your help.
